We had such a fun experience with Rio Samba Dancer! We did the class AND tour, and we had such a good time. Our instructor was vibrant, energetic, interactive, and made everyone feel comfortable, regardless of experience. The class was engaging and a great introduction to samba.
Afterward, a driver met us and we headed to Rio Scenarium (about a 20 minute drive to Lapa), where we enjoyed an amazing live samba band and watched amazingly talented dancers before joining them on the dance floor ourselves. We had a time! Drinks aren't included, but the caipirinhas were fresh, delicious, and absolutely worth ordering. This was a great start to our trip. I highly recommend this experience!

Such a fun experience leaning how to Samba step by step.  My wife and I were local for a few days  and wanted to get a genuine dive into the culture. We booked a day beforehand and was able to join a cool and very diverse small group. The instructor was very hands on and so very patient. We went to an amazing nightclub in downtown Rio after the hour long lessons. The club was amazing! The atmosphere was just right and the entertainment there was incredible.  We danced the night away. We had a samba lesson with Marco a few days before Christmas. Marco was an amazing teacher and such a lovely guy. He taught us the steps then gave us plenty of time during the lesson to practice and get the hang of them before moving on. We covered two different styles of samba within the hour and we even got to try on some traditional Brazilian headwear. I was extremely disappointed with this samba class, specifically the staff and the way they treated us. I specifically booked a private class and private transfer to Pedra do Sal for my group, and this was not honoured at all.
We were left waiting over 30 mins on the side of the road with a large group, with no communication or explanation. Eventually, buses pulled up already full of random people, which was completely different from what we had agreed and paid for. No one explained why the original agreement wasn’t being honoured.
Only afterwards were we told that our group was “too big for them to handle with private transfers”, something that should have been clearly communicated from the very beginning, not once we had already committed.
Marco, the teacher, was genuinely lovely and the highlight of the experience. However, even the class itself wasn’t fully private as promised. Other people came in and sat watching for the last 15–20 minutes, which felt intrusive and unprofessional given what we had booked.
The guides were completely unprofessional, seemed more interested in partying and hanging out with their friends than managing the group, and one guide was outright rude and raised his voice at me, which is unacceptable.
Overall, the experience felt misleading and poorly managed. I would strongly advise others to be very cautious when booking, especially if you’re promised anything “private”. I would not recommend this experience.
